COLLEGE ATHLETICS

Going off to college doesn't mean that you have to give up playing your favorite sport(s). Actually, college offers a few options for staying involved and active in athletics such as intercollegiate teams and intramural teams.

Intercollegiate Teams

Like high school, colleges and universities have school sports teams for men and women such as football, basketball, track, tennis, golf, volley ball, and baseball. There are 2 ways to get on these teams:

  1. Athletic Scholarship (http://www.collegesportsscholarships.com)
  2. Try out as a "walk-on"
For more information about playing school sports, eligibility, and regulations, visit the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) website at www.ncaa.org.

Intramural Athletics

Intramural sports are conducted separately from varsity/intercollegiate athletics. Often these programs are administered by residence hall units, student organizations, hometown affiliations, or simply by groups of friends under the supervision of a faculty sponsor or intramural coordinator. These teams, which include many of the same sports played in intercollegiate acthletics, take participants of varying skill level. If you're interested in getting involved in one of these teams, check with the school's intramurual department or look for postings around campus.

Whichever route you choose, getting involved in sports/athletics has a lot of benefits:

Helps reduce stress
Takes your Mind off of other things like work, tests, etc.
Good way to meet new people; make new friends
Exercise, it's good for the body
Good for the Ego: Playing sports can be a great confidence builder
It's just plain Fun: There's nothing like playing your favorite sport with your friends
